FAQs

Do you offer Reformer Pilates in Miami?

We do work on Pilates reformers in the Miami Pilates studio. However, the Reformer Pilates exercises are just a portion of the full Pilates system. The true, authentic Pilates method is a system of exercises that uses a variety of spring-based apparatuses. “Reformer Pilates” studios have come into fashion, but they are not classical Pilates studios. They are teaching you a modified version of Pilates. At Pilatay - The Studio, we focus on the full, authentic Pilates system because that is what will give you the best results.

I’ve never worked out. Can I do Pilates?

Yes. In fact, it is perfect for those who have never worked out before because it meets you wherever you are. People who hate working out love Pilates because it feels good, it gives you energy, and it’s mentally stimulating. The best way to start is with an introductory package. You will get to try Private Pilates and a small group PIlastes class in our Miami Pilates studio, or online via Zoom . From there, we can come up with a regular program to meet your goals.

Is Pilates physical therapy?

No. Pilates is a workout. However, it does help alleviate aches and pains and is a safe way to build back strength and stamina after an injury. Everyone, of every age, and every ability can do classical Pilates as long as their doctor has cleared them for exercise. For some people with special considerations, we will recommend that you take only private, one-on-one Pilates lessons as the group lessons may not be right for everyone.

Why classical Pilates?

It works. A trademark lawsuit in the 90s made “Pilates” a generic term. Anyone can use the word to describe anything… and they do. Many “spin-offs” of Pilates come in and out of fashion, and they advertise as simply “Pilates” even though what they are teaching is NOT the true Pilates system. People who teach the true, authentic Pilates method refer to their practice as “classical Pilates.” (Although a lot of Pilates teachers don’t know the difference and will sometimes use the term classical incorrectly.) It can be really confusing for the general public. But if you want to get the results and experience the true magic of Pilates, you’ve got to do authentic, classical Pilates.
